Repost from Architecture Daily
The recent floods at Argentina, Ondoy, Sandy and Katrina in USA has made it imperative to change the way we build houses. The floating homes of Amsterdam, inspire us to make such as change. Homes must be increasingly made in areas with water.
Ordinarily houses over water need a lot of pile. But the houses of Amsterdam are actually floating houses. To secure a boat, anchors are used. But pitching in boats can be as much as 22 degrees which are unacceptable to domestic uses.
Floating homes can be secured by tying them to posts secured at seabed diagonally. Such mooring can make the homes stable. The access to floating homes are via piers.
Shall we follow after these floating homes instead of doing the more expensive reclamation projects. These are cheaper and environmentally friendly
