Problem. Solved.

  • Conflict avoidance starts with communication
One way to minimize conflicts in the workplace is to focus on effective communication with your team members, writes Diane Helbig of Seize This Day Coaching. "Tell them the goal, your expectations, the consequences of meeting, and not meeting, those expectations, and your reasons for your decisions." When someone isn't doing a good job, explain your expectations once more, and ask for their input, she writes. Small Business Trends (7/3) LinkedInFacebookTwitterGoogle+Email this Story

  • Get the media to pay attention to your business
News releases can be valuable for small-business owners who want to focus on SEO, but you shouldn't expect them to attract many readers, marketing and customer service strategist Peter Shankman says. It's important to connect with reporters who cover your industry and to determine what you're doing connects with larger business trends, experts say. Also, be respectful of reporters to avoid annoying them. SmartBrief/SmartBlog on Social Media (7/6) LinkedInFacebookTwitterGoogle+Email this Story

  • What the Affordable Care Act means for the health care industry
It's hard to predict the full impact of the Supreme Court's decision to uphold the health care law, but it seems clear more customers will enter the health care industry, Tom Searcy writes. SPREADING THE ENTREPRENEURIAL REVOLUTION

Microsoft was entrepreneurial?

Ateneo Professor on Entrepreneurship

In the special report of Bless Miralles, it was described that Microsoft being entrepreneurial.

Maybe at the time when Bill Gates was hands on at MS, it was entrepreneurial.  Now that Bill Gates is hand on at Melinda Bill Gates Foundation, and with Steve Balmer at he helm, we wonder whether MS is still entrepreneurial:

Here are my observations:

l.  MS OS is rather slow.  Compare that with the superfast OS of apple.

2.  MS was late in the tablet market.  Although it had a working model, it could not catch up because of its MS - DOS which is slow;  they missed this one.

3.  It did not trend well with the market:  as with Itunes of Apple, and the migration of users to mobile devices.  Although it paid $200 million to Nokia to come with MS DOS phone, I am not sure whether:

       l.  They could still catch up;

      2.  Riding with the  a lame horse like Nokia (being left by Apple and Samsung and other Android phones)

4.  Riding with the freemium market.  Everybody is into this.  All the successful net business are into open source and free environment:   Linux, Firefox.  There are more developers in the open source and who come out with better and free products.  Firefox is better than Explorer (or even Google Chrome)

Most of web developers are into Linux and or other platforms.

Is Microsoft creating the market or being driven to the ground by upstarts, more entrepreneurial companies.  It may have command of the market, or very profitable, but for how long.....

Why do MBA students need to take up entrepreneurship?

Ateneo Professor on Entrepreneurship

Many MBA students take up sophisticated subjects like bourse course, global marketing, social media. etc.

In my experience, the entrep elective is seldom (s)elected.  Hence due to lack of load, the 5 or so entrep professors is down to 3.  And two have administrative work:  CCE director and the other one is MBE program director. Of course, there is the vaunted MBE but it is not for everyone - it is for COO.

Back to the question:  why do you need an entrepreneurship education?

l.  The corporate world could have molded your mind into the tried and true;  you would not venture into the risky and unknown; entrepreneurship challenges your creativity.

2.  Entrepreneurship is a mini MBA - it is thus a review.

3.  Not many can write a strategy in their offices, but every one can start may start their own business.
And how do get their knowledge?  4 out of l0 MBA graduates start their own business.  What if you are one of those 4 and you do not know anything about entrepreneurship.

4.  The other important part of  entrepreneurship, of being businessman  which is self mastery has not been given important attention in other courses

5.  That part of entrepreneurship, being able to create something from nothing is short of being a miracle and is very strategic.

6.  Not many MBA grad are proficient in crafting a business plan;  it is part of the course.

Find out from your classmates and groupmates how entrep classes under ProfJorge is being taught, and how it stretches your imagination and creativity and capacity for hard work t the limit.

Unique Selling Proposition of Arch Zuniga's AZAP

Ateneo Professor on Entrepreneurship

Arch Bong Zuniga in his talk yesterday to the Sentrep class emphasized the uniqueness of the business:

l.  His expertise.  His expertise is bank design.  His hard work in this field gave him the expertise.

2.  He personally makes the presentation.  No one , no subordinate makes the client call.  He makes the presentation.  It gives weight to the sales call.

3.  He attends to the customer fast - today;  not tomorrow, but today..

4.  He personally checks that all the drawings that comes out of AZAP are complete and accurate.  If it is needed that he does not sleep to make sure, as he did yesterday, he will do it.

5.  He makes sure that all the requirements are delivered on time.

He experienced non payment from clients, or accounts being taken by competitors.  But he just moves on.
