LIGNET: Pope Faces War with Vatican Bureaucracy

In our faculty conference for the last two days, it was explained that the new Pope has something which his predecessor do not have:    a forceful personality and a different style.

There was resignation before from former Pope because he could not tame the curia - the elephant at Vatican which has resisted change.

Pope Francis has been listed as the model in the conference as the standard for change management.  But is he really the model in change?  Can he change the curia of the Vatican?

What is the meaning of this if he fails to tame the curi?

Lignet - The Morning Brief
Massive Protests Could Be Beginning of the End for Morsi
Opposition protesters stormed the headquarters of the Muslim Brotherhood in Cairo this morning and set it on fire after more than 1 million people converged overnight last night to demand the resignation of President Mohammed Morsi. The protests are the largest Egypt has seen since the revolution that overthrew former dictator Hosni Mubarak in early 2011. Police reported violent clashes between supporters of Morsi and the opposition, with at least five people killed. The opposition group Tamarud, which organized the protest, says it will give Morsi until the end of the day tomorrow to resign.

The Future is Now for an African Rapid-Response Force
A plan to mount a rapid-response, pan-African military force has finally been pulled off the shelf after many years and now has the full support of African leaders. But those leaders have not defined the objectives of the force or the missions for which it might be deployed, and seem unaware of the capabilities that will be required to make it an effective counter to Islamist insurgencies on the continent. If they cannot agree on these specifics and arrange for adequate funding, it is unlikely that the force will ever be deployed, leaving Africa increasingly vulnerable to terrorist insurgencies.
