Writing the Business Plan

Our generation needs an ENTREPRENEURIAL REVOLUTION.

An important point was raised last session..  While the BP is 25% of the total grade, there seems to be no discussion of the BP.  While the 6th session is the start of the BP discussion, the student felt it was not enough preparation.  And then the 45 days allowance would cause the overlap.  It is normally 30 days but to avoid further negotiation on the deadline, I moved it to 45 days.  We can move it to 30 days or earlier if the overlap is a big concern.

May I suggest the following:

l.  Please read the ppt slideshare on bp and parts of the syllabus on BP.

2.  I hope you viewed well the exemplar. (that of Mags Balde at Clark.  It is a 3.9 paper)

3.  All the things that we do in the class are parts of the bp.  Please observe very well and learn from the individual and group actiivities:'

l   NU 6 is about business concept.

2.  Micromarket study is about making sales projection,  product analysis and competitive evaluation

3.  Product design is about product:   alpha beta testing, product concept, mvp

4.  PDQ is enterprise delivery system. 

The cases as well lead us to the refinement of the understanding of bp making.  So keep an eye on the bp and our class activities.

Larry Farrell Business Plan Writing Competition

I just gathered the business plan submitted by both the MBA standard and Middle Manager program.  They were done within one month after the end of the regular trimester.  As I announced earlier, they are qualified to join the Larry Farrell business plan writing competition.  Larry Farrell, who is an international expert on entrepreneurship is a friend of AGSB (he visited AGSB twice and delivered lectures).

I hope that the business plan submitted are of high quality and reflect the learning from the cases and lectures in the class room.

On Business Plan

These are my comments on the business plan which I write as comments on the drafts submitted and which I have been repeating in both MM and Standard program entrep classes:

l.  Kindly read very well the hand/out syllabus which contains the detailed write up on business plan.

2.  Please read Dr. Ed Morato's book, Trillogy of Enterpreneurship on the section on business plan writing.  Better still, buy the book if you are serious in learning how to write a business plan.

COMMENTS:
l.  Please follow the prescribed BP format.  It will enable to grade everyone fast and uniformly and fairly.  It will be 30 pts on innovativeness and being compelling.  70 pts on completeness.  What are to be rated in completeness.  Business concept and model  l0 pts.   VMOKRAPI - l0 pts.  Sales Estimate (from EA opportunity seeking, screening/micromarket),  product  -  l0 pts. product design and production l0 pts/
EDS in long form l5 pts.  Financial l5 pts.  at least 3 years.  A bp without fs does not get a passing grade.

2.  Be sure you learn how do a business model.

3.  Have the 4 groups of objectives.  Do not mistake inputs for objectives

4.  There are 4 groups of organizational leadership:  financial/equity holders, techonology owner/provider. top management, and middle managers.

5. A BP's ;purpose is to prove to the readers your story that you can do the things you said there, from the rigors of analysis, ce and logic

6.  Compellling and mesmerizing.

It is sad to note that the business plans submitted early to comply with graduation requirements have yet to meet these standards.
