Philippines now one of the top BPO hotspots; US politicians move can blunt its progress

Nation building via learning and being the best in business

PHL is now considered one to the giants in the BPO industry.  It brings in about $30 billion a year to the Philippine economy, one of the legs of PHL industry, the other is OFW remittances and the remaining 1/3 are from agri and electronics subcontracting.

That is about 30% of the PHL gdp.  It fuels a lot of industry:   housing, food and retail, transportation, retails etc.    It is fraught with danger because US wants to bring back job to USA and this includes the call center.

What would happen to the Phil economy if the BPO were to shrink.   You can see the effect of POGO closure on office and housing rental market.

PHL to be top Healthcare Outsourcing Country in 2012?

The AGSB Advantage

Mr. Alejandro Melchor of  ICTO (Information Communications Technology Office) announced that PHL will be the leading player in the healthcare outsourcing.  This follows after the Philippine surpassed India in voice call contact services.  I think this is a drumbeating on the part of the govt and speculative yet.

This is based on Pres Obamas initiative for affordable health care act and would be needing $530 billion to implement.  Aside from the medical transcription service (the current business) there will be disease management, pharma monitoring and management, clinical coding, and revenue cycle management.

This is one of 5 pt program of DOST for 20l2.

The BPO in the Phil will bring in up to $25B in revenues by 20l6, l.3 million in direct jobs, and 3.2 million in direct jobs according to BPAP (Business Process Association Philippines)  That is great news for Philppine job seekers;  bad news again for USA employees.

Some Bright Spots in the Philippine Economy

I am not an economist;  I will just mention what I have read regarding the Phil. economy.  These should make us proud and inspire us, despite all odds. Some bright spots:

Philippines is now number 2 in BPO, second only to India.  Phil is now number one in call center (voice business)The BPO is projected to bring in up to $25 billion in total revenues by 20l6 (Enhance Online News)

Other interesting stats:  Phil is l2th largest economy in Asia 32nd  in the world based in the purchasing power parity frim IMF report in 20l0.  Goldman Sachs predicted the Philippine economy to be the l4th largest economy in the whole word by 2050 (that is a long long time to go.

So much for the doom gloom prophets and tongue lashing vs the Philippine President.  Let us stay united behind him, aspire to be one of his KKK (buddies). We are getting there.  Let us just keep our acts together.
