Labor intensive sweet potato harvesting in USA

Looking forward to the future of business

Not everything is automated in USA.  There are also labor intensive harvesting of sweet potatoes

Next step is finding ways for storage and processing of the same so that sweet potatoes do not spoil.  A lot of food technology has to be discovered

87% tax to businesses in California? That is why many businesses are on exodus to other states!

Looking forward to the future of business

87% tax for businesses?  This could destroy businesses in the fabulous state of California.  No kind of business will survive under that environment.  Couple that with high crime rate, high minimum wage, homelessness.  It is certainly not a good place do business anymore.   Top names like Google, Tesla, McDo is also exiting California

All of a sudden our business environment looked so friendly and enticing.   This is even more attractive to export processing zones and free port (as in Subic)   Its time to send trade missions to California to invite them to do business here.

One time I was invited to do a business plan for a meat plant in California which the local family bought for a hefty sum  I advised them vs the idea.  Instead to just export to Asian and ME countries which could achieve the same volume

What will happen to our kababayan in California?   Will California still be the state that has GDP second only to the USA?

Why has California transformed to be a dismal place for business?  Can this still be reversed?

California raises minimum wage to $10 per hour; is this making California uncompetitive? Is California still the USA dreamland? s

Ateneo Professor on Entrepreneurship

Repost from Reuters | September 25, 2013

Gov Jerry Brown signed into a law a bill that seeks to increase the minimum age of Californians to $10 per hour till 2016 up from present $8.00 per hour.  That would be increase of $16 per day or about P600.00 per day or more than our minimum age in the PHL.  This is seen as a move to help California residents keep up with the rising cost of living. The clamor for higher wages in California seems to be on the rise, as photos below would show.  The move is supported by Democrats who are pro poor and pro labor. Republicans said however that it would hurt entrepreneurs and small businessmen

However, this would make California more uncompetitive, reduce job opportunities, and cause many residents to seek employment elsewhere.  That is the law of investment and opportunity seeking.

I had advised a PHL food processor not to put up a manufacturing base in USA two years ago;  at that time, cost of doing business in California was all ready very stiff and steep.  This is not to mention the cost of litigation and regulations in California

This would help fuel more outsourcing because it is cheaper to outsource abroad.

California no longer a nice place for start ups?

Would this be helpful to California in the long run?

Would you support this bill if you were a public sector leader?

Government Entrepreneurship

Ateneo Professor on Entrepreneurship

August 29, 2013

I made a new research;  this time on government entrepreneurship. This article has been inspired by my reading on Larry Farrell. He is the expert on international entrepreneurship.  He advises countries on promoting entrepreneurship as tool for economic development.  He came over to the PHL for a lecture on Corporate Entrepreneurship at UAP and said I was his friend. (His wife isnt!) He gave me a authographed book - The New Entrepreneurial Age, which egged me to write do this research.

While some govt could be very friendly towards entrepreneurs, some are outrightly hostile and anti business.   Europe has been pro labor and look at its economy now.  But Taiwan under Li, the Minister of Economics said that government must honor entrepreneurs.  That is also an extreme.  That is why Taipei averaged 9% growth for the last 60 years and 5th largest reserves in the world.

Elsewhere in the world, even in the PHL, entrepreneurs are harassed by regulators.  There is no need to give money or support to entrepreneurs;  just leave them alone

Even in US businessman are wary of IRS, Obamacare and the precarious govt finance situation.  In California, many readers are wary that the Hyperloop concept will not take off in California.  California has been rated by The Executive Magazine as one of the worst place to do business in.
