Interesting Shows On the 3rd and Final Day of REE

An Ateneo Graduate School of Business Advantage

The 3rd and final day started early.  There were more participants:  students, sponsors, and buisenessmen from Thailand (the size of the audience doubled)  There were three cultural shows inserted into the program:  the drum beating exhibition (influenced by Japanese culture), two bands:   three bands:  two with song number and one that was purely instrumental (done at l30 pm)

I  liked the energy and intensity of the drum beating exhibition.  I like the audience partiicpation and the electrifying effect on the audience.

They should have done more of this to keep the particitipants awake.

The lectures of Saras. Alstair, Peter, were recast of the lecture of the previous days.  Tina.s lecture was new.

There were three stories of social entrepreneurship from Thailand.  They were nice and admireable because they had lasting impact on society  and politics of Thailand.  I will be discussing that in a separate post The session ended at 3 pm.  After which there was a trip to the Royal Palace.  I had to decline because children and wife will be arriving.

Will you Share 1/3 of Your Company's Annual Profit? (Social Business Special Reports at STR}

An Ateneo Graduate School of Business Advantage

Most of the special reports last Tuesday at STR Regis Entrep class were about social business:   CSV vs CSR, Human Nature of Ana Wilks, and Economy of Communion (Focolare Movement).  The week previous, Grameen Bank was discussed.  Most of the STR students would probably be social entrepreneurs.  Five years ago, social entrepreneurship was talked about in the entrep class.  How fast how the knowledge of entrepreneurship has evolved in terms of concepts and social businesses that have been established. (In the Phil, AdeMU in Loyola is at the leading edge of social entrepreneurship in the Phil;  Dr. Tony Lavina, head of ASG is an Ashoka fellow.  N.B.  One of the ASG staff, Atty Casanova is now the CEO of BCDA)

Social businesses that are topics of STRAMA are difficult to evaluate, in terms of traditional understanding of business.

That is why for my class, the profit motive is not in the definition of entrepreneurship;  the social entrepreneurship concept can not be captured.

CSV is the new capitalism espoused by no less than Michael Porter (the 5 forces of competition, competitive advantage of nation HBS guru) CSV businesses take care of the triple bottom line:  people, planet, profit.

Human Nature established by the daughter of GK, employs GK residents and pays handsomely its employees and suppliers, using organic raw mat that do not harm the earth/planet.

I am most impressed by the SR of Armando Coloma on the Focolare movement.  (Thank you Armando) I just do not know how well businesses can handle this.  It involves giving away l/3 of your profits (God calls for just l/l0th) to third parties.   Focolare movement anyone?

Social Entrepreneurship - A Slideshare Presentation by Prof Jorge

Our generation needs an ENTREPRENEURIAL REVOLUTION .Join

This is part of the entrepreneurial revolution. This term was popularized by Bill Drayton of the Ashoka Foundation. In the Phil, one of such fellow is Dr. Tony Lavina of ASG of Ateneo. Other Social Entrepreneurs are Mr. Illac Diaz, Dr V of Aravind Hospital in India (rip+), Dr Mohamad Yunus of Grameen Bank in Bangladesh.

Social Entrepreneurs are not your typical cash burners, or donation solicitors. They use capitalism/entrepreneurship techniques to sustain social services. They are in middle between the profit maximizing business, and non profit ngo (civil society) They do things which neither the government nor business is willing to take for the ills of society.

They create value by creating social value ie solving society's problems.

Invitation from Mr. Illac Diaz, Social Entrepreneur for my Class to Join ALiterOflight.Org

U emailed Mr. Diaz informing him that I blogged his latest work on social entrepreneurship ie the solar light using one liter empty softdrink bottle.  He invited my class to join him in promoting this innovation to the poor far flung areas whose residents do not have source of light.

It was unfortunate that I do not have entrep class this term, I informed him.  Perhaps next time

As his invention works only in daytime, it wise also to introduce, Nokero (Nokerosene solar lamps, an invention of one of the students of Dr. Manny Serapio in Denver Colorado for International Entrepreneurship), which works at night.

Every generation needs a revolution - an ENTREPRENEURIAL REVOLUTION.

Feeding the Fish

One of the key ideas in social entrepreneurship (vs mendicancy) is not just to give man fish but to teach man how to fish. In this blog, at the bottom, there is a fish a aquarium with l0 fishes.  No need to buy an aquarium tank.
You can feed them by clicking the mouse.  Watch if they grow.

To relax you.  Maybe you can revolutionize the fishing industry.

Enjoy.
