Seeing opportunities where none is seen by others or seeing opportunities in problems

Image result for what pisses you off

An entrepreneur is somebody who sees opportunities in the world around us where none sees anything.   In crowded area, he sees only confusion and crowd, or in a vacant land he sees only vacant land.  An entreprene7r sees opportunity in a crowded squatters area, or filthy toilet or market place, and sees condos in a cogon area or rolling rawland.

Thus in the Entrep class I had there were serendipity walk, and students were to report business opportunities at say Magsaysay Avenue in Olongapo City, or DMacapagal Avenue at MoA or Munoz Market, or the newly built SCTEX.  . In Magsaysay Avenue, a very creative student despite seeing the crowd at the cabaret row at Magsaysay Av. came up with 40+ businesses.  Wow they were really visionary.

I remember at ADB class for this subject, a student in true spirit of visionary saw a dozen business opportunities at DMacapagal Avenue at MoA.  Several years hence, today, I see many businesses at the said area that he envisioned.

Another way to seek opportunities is to ask "What pisses off?" the customer or the public at large.  The entrepreneurs solution to the problems surely becomes a business opportunity. How to make transactions faster and easier.   Many fail to see business opportunities in problems All that they see is problems

Renewable Energy - Wind Farms in the Phils.

Ateneo Professor on Entrepreneurship

From Philstar

The Asian Development Bank has provided for a funding of $500,000 to the PHL to build government capabilities for pre feasibility and economic studies on wind power projects.

Earlier US DOE has determined the potential of 76,000 MW capacity through various wind energy projects.  As of todate, only the $50 million a 33 MW project in Bangui Bay Ilocos Norte has been constructed.  Another one, an P8 billion Wind Power Energy System in Puerto Galera is under construction

The DOE will gather data in these areas: Cagayan,  Camarines Norte, and Aklan for wind power projects.  The data will be placed under the care of UP and Ateneo.  EU is also pushing for more renewable energy projects in the country which are mini grids in small islands.

What are the opportunities emerging from this news?

How will this affect global warming and the fossil fuel usage?

PHL poised to 5% growth in 2012

Promoting Entrepreneurial Revolution

PHL poised to grow by 5-6% in 2012

It was published today at PDI that according to the Pres of ADB by Pres. Hiruhiko Kuroda that PHL economy is poised to grow between 5 and 6% in 2012 He described PHL economy to be robust and strong fundamentals.  PHL economy grew by 3.l  % in 2011.  compare that with 0.5% of Eurozone and l.2% of USA.

Asia Region Growth to Average 7%

While there are worldwide concerns that affect slowdown in exports,  performance in Asian region could average 7 to 7+%..  Phil must address its infrastructure issues as telecom, water and electricity if it must sustain its growth.

Yesterday the PHISIX breached for the first time the 5,000 mark.

What do these thing mean for the PHL entrepreneurs?

Dragon Outlook for the Philippines?

An Ateneo Graduate School of Business Advantage

Aside from the long shot prediction that PHL could be an N-ll until 2020, and one of the l6 largest economies of the world by 2050, things are looking up for PHL:

l.  Our banks have been seen as stronger than European counterparts;

2.  OFW remittances are up in December 20ll compared t the same period last year.

3.  The Eurozone worries has been dampened by IMF move to raise $600 billion as part of rescue package.

4.  The PHL is next in line for Moody's credit upgrade.   In January last year, Moodys upgraded PHL credit rating from positive to stable.  This year, it may go to 2 notches below investment grade. In December , S & P likewise upgraded PHL from positive to stable.   While Fitch, based in UK upgraded PHL from two notches to one notch below investment grade.

5.  And oh, yesterday PHISIX was at 4,700 its highest performance so far;  first time to breach 4,700.  This was led by energy and mining sectors.

6.  And oh yes, BSP cut, after a long time, interest rates by 25 bpps to cushion impact of recent world developments.

What is behind this rally?:   political climate, global developments?

Will PHL be able to sustain such robust performance?

However, ADB in its recently held briefing tends to be more cautious on the prospects of PHL for still having structural weaknesses.  ASEAN would grow at 7% while PHL will manage only 4.8%.

Why is ADB correct or wrong?

What can we as entrepreneurs, contribute to this continued positive development in PHL?

AdemU Class l972 plans to have it 40th reunion next year.  Last night, after 39 years, I met some of them at the Blue Room (Dean A Buenviaje belongs to Class l972 and had it used the alumni room used for the meeing).  Some of the guys I met last night were:    Mr Gody Hernandez, the Phihilippine representative to ADB, Dr Ely Remalona, (formerly with World Bank) and Bank of International Settlement officer in HK , Atty Jose Tale,  head of Couples for Christ and former head of PMS at Malacanang under Pres Cory; Prof Frankie Varona  at Lyceum;  Hon. Jonathan de la Cruz, a congressman, and columnist; Mr Jess Tanedo, Mr. Dennis Sta Catalina, Mr. Lito Bauza, Mr. Dennis Goquingco.  They are powerful and influential persons in private and government.

The first planned activity is to sponsor a Misa de Gallo mass on December l8, 2011 at Church of Gesu.  Cong. de la Cruz said Mr. Paulie Reyes of Kenny Rogers would most likely handle the sponsorship since it is just snacks for the choir.

I am proud and was I glad I met them although it was raining and traffic was bad.
