Sony sells struggling PC Vaio business, as it prepares for $1.1 billion loss, to lay off 5,000 employees

Sony cuts off 5,000 jobs, and sells its struggling Vaio PC business. a rather unusual move for a Japanese company where lifetime employment is a norm. It anticipates a loss of $1.1 billion
What happenned to a $100 billion company, a leader in many electronic field: VCR, walkman, radio, hifi audio equipment, cameras, a leader in innovation.
As with Dell and and other PC company, it failed to see the consumer needs moving toward lighter and mobile PC equipment - the smartphones which are more versatile, compact and light. (I hate lugging my 3kg PC It is a pain in the neck.) HP and other PC manufacturers am sure are seeing their sales decline steadily.
Apple correctly predicted the trend as it shifted to iPhone and that is why it is a winner (why Sony is a sore loser)
