Factors Paper

I: Introduction:

I assessed myself if I had what It took to be an entrepreneur by rating myself against 10 qualities of and entrepreneur according to an article by Under30CEO.com, entitled “10 qualities of a successful entrepreneur” It lists: discipline, confidence, open minded, self-starter, competitive, creative, determined, has strong people skills, has strong work ethic and passion.

II: Self-Assessment:

1. Disciplined
“These individuals are focused on making their businesses work, and eliminate any hindrances or distractions to their goals. They have overarching strategies and outline the tactics to accomplish them. Successful entrepreneurs are disciplined enough to take steps every day toward the achievement of their objectives.”
Self-rating: 9/10
I do believe that I have good discipline in everything I do, whether it be on my daily tasks as a product specialist for Chemlux or helping out in the parish. I tend to be organized, on time for appointments and know my limits.
2. Confidence
“The entrepreneur does not ask questions about whether they can succeed or whether they are worthy of success. They are confident with the knowledge that they will make their businesses succeed. They exude that confidence in everything they do.”
Self-rating: 9/10
I know that I can succeed in business. Now that I am gaining knowledge in my MBA coupled with my experiences, hobbies and passion. I am confident I can succeed in any business I have in mind.
3. Open Minded
“Entrepreneurs realize that every event and situation is a business opportunity. Ideas are constantly being generated about workflows and efficiency, people skills and potential new businesses. They have the ability to look at everything around them and focus it toward their goals.”
Self-rating: 8/10
I read a lot business related magazines websites and exchange ideas with other people. At work, I have to deal with different situations and issues from our clients, I have to be open to their concerns and ideas.
The examples mentioned above are examples of how I practice being open minded. Although I have to admit, there are times that I want things in a certain way on how I envision certain aspects
4. Self Starter
“Entrepreneurs know that if something needs to be done, they should start it themselves. They set the parameters and make sure that projects follow that path. They are proactive, not waiting for someone to give them permission.”
Self-rating: 8/10
I do believe that the first step in any business idea always has to start with me. Any action to be taken has to be in my own initiative.
At work or on projects I can work independently with minimal to no supervision from others.
In my projects It is always my self-implied initiative to oversee all aspects involved.
5. Competitive
“Many companies are formed because an entrepreneur knows that they can do a job better than another. They need to win at the sports they play and need to win at the businesses that they create. An entrepreneur will highlight their own company’s track record of success.”
Self-rating: 9/10
I realized that entering a business will always have competitors, existing alternatives and same-business competitors and the competitors that the business will generate from businesses that want to be a “me-also” business. To be a successful entrepreneur I must accept this fact and face it head on, and think of ways to stay ahead of competition.
6. Creativity
“One facet of creativity is being able to make connections between seemingly unrelated events or situations. Entrepreneurs often come up with solutions which are the synthesis of other items. They will repurpose products to market them to new industries.
Self-rating: 10/10
Creative is an adjective I always use to describe myself. Not only because of my love for drawing, painting and photography, but also my ability to think out of the box for solutions and go the extra mile when it comes to the finer details.
7. Determination
Entrepreneurs are not thwarted by their defeats. They look at defeat as an opportunity for success. They are determined to make all of their endeavors succeed, so will try and try again until it does. Successful entrepreneurs do not believe that something cannot be done.”
Self-rating: 9/10
Once I have started something, there is no quitting. I think I am determined to finish anything I start, quitting for me is a sign of failure, which for me is unacceptable.
8. Strong people skills
The entrepreneur has strong communication skills to sell the product and motivate employees. Most successful entrepreneurs know how to motivate their employees so the business grows overall. They are very good at highlighting the benefits of any situation and coaching others to their success.”
Self-rating: 9/10
I believe that I have strong people skills. I am very easy to get along with at the office and I believe in the value of fairness when it comes to dealing with people. I don’t like people feeling shortchanged with me.
9. Strong work ethic
The successful entrepreneur will often be the first person to arrive at the office and the last one to leave. They will come in on their days off to make sure that an outcome meets their expectations. Their mind is constantly on their work, whether they are in or out of the workplace.
Self-rating: 9/10
I actually do not agree with the definition stated in the article for strong work ethics, I think that in this age, working smart is the trend. For me what I contribute to the business is more important than the time I spend at work.
Working on day-offs is not healthy. A work-life balance necessary to avoid stress and over fatigue.
I still rate myself a 9/10 because I think work ethic really refers on how much you care for the business. Whether it is my own or not, I can say that I do care for the business I am in.
10. Passion
“Passion is the most important trait of the successful entrepreneur. They genuinely love their work. They are willing to put in those extra hours to make the business succeed because there is a joy their business gives which goes beyond the money. The successful entrepreneur will always be reading and researching ways to make the business better.”
Self-rating: 9/10
I do have a lot of hobbies such as art, photography, football, cooking and food research which I think all enjoy doing, but what I think my new found passion is marketing- thinking of business ideas that I can pursue. If I can find the right fit or decide on what I really want to do mashing up marketing and my hobbies, then it will a business bliss.

III: Conclusion.

Using the article’s 10 qualities and assessing myself, a score of  90/100. I can say that I am ready to take on entrepreneurship. The lacking 10 points from my score- I can see it as an opportunity to improve myself at. I have no doubt in myself that I do want to become an entrepreneur in the near future and I know there are things I need to learn and challenges I will encounter but, I am ready to take them in in because they are part of entrepreneurship. 4 <mf thanks for smart publishing, labelling>
