US Postal Service ends delivery on Saturday to slash $2 Billion in costs

Ateneo Professor on Entrepreneurship

From Washington Post by Ed O' Keefe | February 6, 2013

The US Postal Service plans to cut deliveries on Saturday beginning August to save $2 billion in costs. It lost $l5.9 billion (that is about PHP 600 billion) <no wonder US is incurring bigger and bigger deficit and debt> last year.  USPS has suffered because of the internet (less mail delivery) and other courier services.

The move may need Congressional approval?

For years, the semi government agency struggled to have structural reforms but failed to do so (as is with most government agencies;  changes come hard to come buy because the laws set in stone processes and structure)

The delivery portion however will not be halted because this is profitable;  some offices will open to receive mail...

The old who get their medicine by mail and newspapers are complaining though....

Is there a future for USPS?  Is it because of inefficiency that is why they are losing money?

Must the US Federal Govt allow the agency to bleed some more?

Is there a hope for  this federal agency?

What was the strategy of the Philippine Postal Service?  Did the Phil Postal Service do better?  What was the Australian Postal Service Strategy?  Were they successful?  Why?
