In the US, Senior Citizens Work Hard to Pay the Bills
An Ateneo Graduate School of Business Advantage
It is a coincidence that we blogged Ateneo College 72 reunion yesterday. They are all seniors now. Somewhere in my blog, at the gadget sidebar. it was mentioned in the Latest From that in 2008, the seniors started business at the rate of l00,000 a month, more than any age group. Now, they are struggling to keep business afloat to pay for their bills. They have deferred retirement and travel.
Do not count out the oldies in entrepreneurship. They are still capable.
Last Saturday, I learned in a wedding that one of my new kumpadres who thought he is retired (he is 64) started an energy company. They sell device that will control escalators, one of the biggest energy wasters. It consist of a controller that detects the presence of the escalator user (voice? or noise detectror, proximity sensor) that runs the escalator when somebody is about to use. No sound, the escalator is turned off. That is innovative.
Do you think seniors still got what it takes to be entrepreneurs/entrepreneurial? Can they still succeed? Is entrepreneurship for the young at heart only? Arent the oldies being forced to still work because of the crisis? Is it good or bad?
