Interesting Experience at MBE Environmental Scanning Panel Last August 9, 20ll
Every generation needs a revolution - an ENTREPRENEURIAL REVOLUTION.
I accepted the invitation to be a panelist for the oral defense of the environmental scanning portion of the business plan preparation of the MBE students. It was supposed to be a part of transfer of technology. But I was anxious that I would not be able ask anything nor count in the panel for the vaunted MBE program of the school. Here is my experience:
l. The first student came in late. He is a COO and was given a store to manage in a club. His EA consisted of download of an internet report. No actual survey or observation (no OLO) was done. While the enterprise was micro, the student erroneously tried a secondary data to support his business. The paper was bad and the student was advised to improve on his self mastery, ie to work harder and be more passionate in what he is doing at the MBE and in the business.
2. The second student had a wealth of data but they were begging for an analysis. He was prodded with a lot of questions to interpret his data. He needs to redo his EA.
Some comments:
l. I am reminded that some students found difficulty in coming out with a good BP, because the problem is not academic or intellectual in nature but more of personal mastery.
2. Students often try to get away with honest report by copy pasting from the internet. A very common practice.Hard data from actual observation must be secured.
3. The level of competence of students in preparing bp even for those who pay less (as in the MBA elective like mine) is not different from those who pay more. If there were more teacher and more time in teaching my entrep course, I can come up with equally bright and better entrepreneurs.
Thanks again to Tony Del Carmen and Dr Morato for the experience. Also to Melvin.
