Information Superhighway for Agriculture in Thailand and in PHL?
Promoting Entrepreneurial Revolution
Last March 2, 20l2, Fmr Usec of Agriculture Dr. Ernesto Ordonez wrote about the use of ICT to spread various agriculture technologies to farmers using for instance YouTube to educate farmers on vermiculture. I emailed him mentioning that in Thailand there is the information superhighway established by DTAC (its dominant telco just like Smart) The medium is sms and just be subscribing to this, the 200,000 or so Thai farmers get access to: extension work of agriculture technicians and successful fellow farmers, and market prices of their goods. Also weather conditions; and THIS IS FREE FOR THE FARMERS!
It is an admireable social entrep project of DTAC that has a long lasting and deep impact on the lives of the farmers. Perhaps our telcos can do the same for farmers. By having well informed farmers, we have more progressive and prosperous farmers bringing in more business to the telco giants. If DTAC with only 20 million subscribers in Thailand, so much more with our giant telcos who have much much more.
