Recollection for the Lenten Season Today with Rev Fr. Arnel Aquino SJ

Is there a place for renunciation, as imitation of Christ in the business school?

Just  barely thirty minutes after meeting the class I dismissed the class to go to the annual Lenten recollection at the auditorium.  This was started under Dr. Alran Bengzon in l994 and the first topic was finding God in Makati.  The recollection was led by Rev. Fr. Arnel Aquino who is from the San Jose Seminary.  From his talk, I guess he is from Davao City.

Renunciation

The main thesis of his talk is "Renunciation" That is giving up stuff power and everything.  We do this so that others may live and be better.  We do this because Christ is in us.  As the death of Christ gave life to us;  conversely, we are here because Christ sacrificed for us.  As our parents sacrificed so that  we may reach our goals;  we owe what we are now because of that renunciation.

Some interesting questions came up:

l. Is the death of a non Christ, like his father, like that of Jesus Christ, namely it will give birth to other life?

2.  Does renunciation have a place in business school, where accumulation, hoarding is the name of the game.?

Fr Arnel replied to the query of Dr Bengzon, that as a priest,, he will remind the businessmen, but honestly he does not have the answer;  to which Dr. Bengzon the answer is unfair.

I think the CSV concept of Michael Porter answer that renunciation;   namely maximization is no longer the right model;  old capitalism is a dead model;  corporate shared value with all the stake holders is the new model. Or we may call it social entrepreneurship where value is shared with everyone

Maintaining this blog for everyone, for every former and new students, I think is a renunciation for me;  I do not make money for me.  Maybe, others profit from the knowledge from this blog.  And that is a form of renunciation, I think....
