I took the bus in going to one of our provincial business. As I rode the public transportation I observed the contrast in mindsets.
In the FX (toyota tamaraw taxi popularly called fx) The driver had uniform, but he was busy and very noisy talking to his fellow driver over a citizen band radio. Traffic was heavy and he was finding the best way so as to reach destination fast. However, one of the passengers, a bank employee, reminded the driver/operator that she would be alighting at a place that the driver would not want to go, because traffic was heavy. The poor lady, who had already paid her fare, (a contract was perfected) was snarled at by the discourteous driver for not having said earlier (we heard the said where she wanted to alight). The bad driver, when reminded that he should not quarrel or be discourteous to customers/passengers was in his element arguing and discussing. Now, how could we move on being better in business, competitiveness, if there are people with narrow minds. The government agency in charge of giving franchise to public utilities (LTFRB?) must educate train thse poor souls.
I transferred to a provincial bus going to the province (Lucena). The bus conductor was well dressed and was courteous and was apologetic because of the heavy traffic at EDSA. He said that the slow traffic is perhaps the reason why our econonomy is also slow. Quite a perceptive guy. The country's economic think tanks and planners missed the bus conductor's analytical insights.
