The Traders are Complaining - Too Much Intermediation

Our generation needs an ENTREPRENEURIAL REVOLUTION.

Philippines rank poorly in WB Doing business; now l48 from last year's l46. This is something that must be addressed squarely and soon by new Leadership of the President. The current malaise is turning off entrepreneurship; entrepreneurship should be the one insulating the country from the worldwide financial crisis or recession that is being forecasted.

Some complaints by traders:

l. Too many check (cash!!!) points along the road to the market: there is the barangay tanod, the DENR, the police, the LTO flying squad, the MMDA, the Highway Patrol Group, the Coast Guard.

2. New tariff and custom code. The guys at B of P, and B o C make their own tariff code despite all the trade agreements of very low or zero tariff. Proof: they do not issue receipts for the imagined new tariff code. It is their code. The replacement of the new B o C chief was even made an excuse to ask for more. Mahigpit sir. You have to pay more.

So when will it be better for entrepreneurs and traders? When will "Doing Business" Improve. How can we climb up the World Bank rating? When will the President's honesty and tamang daan prevail? Soon, now, later?

  2. Its up to you. We need a change, di ba? You are in a better position to influence the people making public policy and implementing them. I am writing maybe from a dreamer's point of view. Wishful thinking.
