John Stayton on Green Movement
An Ateneo Graduate School of Business Advantage
John Observed that the rapid growth of earth's population vis a vis the rate at which the earth's limited resources are being consumed is not sustainable. The rate at which earth is able to recover and replace, regenerate is exceeded by 50% in the consumption. We must remember that our only capital, resource is the earth. There is no other resource that the people have. And if we consume the capital, there is no ROI, and when we eat the capital, we cannibalize, we eat our future.
Green movement makes sense. Du Pont for instance, earned $ 600 million by reducing its waste and billions more managing its energy. Managing resources well, efficiency makes good business sense. Efficent operations means less depletion of resources, less carbon emissions and less climate change.
He observes that current practice in USA is not sustaintable; stock prices are down of the leading companies, profitability is down.
John uses much in his discussion John Senge. He maintains that oftentimes, actions and behavior of individuals are blamed, or pointed out as the cause. However, the structure, the culture, the system, is responsible for it. And therefore the system has be worked out, overhauled.
