Are great employees born or made?
Ateneo Professor on Entrepreneurship
When you hire, do you always follow the adage that you can hire anyone who is young and trainable?
Hence the adage "Hire for the attitude and then train"
It is my experience that when you hire a 20+ year old he has much of his personality formed over the years by his school, parents, and community. Hard training can not do much for him/her especially work and attitudes.
So you really have to exert much effort when hiring; as if you are looking for a bride or a groom.
Are you going to be comfortable with this guy? So Tony Tjan of Cue Ball says you have to look in the guy: guts, smarts, heart and luck. You hear it from his stories, not on his resume or tests.
Look for sense of passion and optimism in the guy: the can do attitude. Has he ever sold anything in his life? That makes him hard skinned and determined.
