Community based social enterprise

Ateneo Professor on Entrepreneurship

In the last two days of my provincial tour of popular tourist destination, I saw two successful social enterprises:  both of them sponsored by a broadcasting company.  They are:   Pambato reef in Honday Bay tour,  and Ugong rock, a side trip of PUR tour.

1.   Ugong rock is being run by a cooperative who were formerly slash and burn farmers.  Now to preserve nature, these people formed a cooperative and run the spelunking cave adventure of Ugong rocks and Zip Line.  They charge P200.00 per pax for the tour cave and P250.00 for the zip line.  ABS CBN must have provided the gear and the lumber for the briefing area and stairs for the cave and zip line.

The City Govt must have provided the training and the organization.

2.  Pambato reef -  located in Honda bay.  This is run by residents of Bo. Sta. Lourdes, who live at the wharf area for Honda bay.  It must have set up just like the Ugong rock.  Great effort to provide jobs without just giving alms/food to eat.
