Integrity counts in building business
Ateneo Professor on Entrepreneurship
I watched the history of Shanghai from the 1900 up to now. In its history, there was this boatman who returned the leather briefcase of a foreign businessman. He returned the contents: documents and money. The boatman returned the money and the documents intact and refused rewards.
The foreign businessman rewarded him instead with knowledge of Western business. He started hardware business which grew. He eventually acquired 10 ships and bought land in Shanghai. He controlled the kerosene business which he got from Standard Oil. He helped improved the Shanghai infrastructure. He helped build a bridge. The growth of his business was built on integrity.
Can you build business on integrity ie being good.
Do good businessmen finish first or bad man finish first?
What do you think?
Are Chinese businessmen all good?
