ENTREPENEUR? Let me define first what is entrepreneur. According to Wikipedia and Businessdictionary, an entrepreneur is someone who exercises initiative by organizing a venture to take benefit of an opportunity and, as the decision maker, decides what, how, and how much of a good or service will be produced. By the definition given, I must say that I am an entrepreneur.
I was working back then at Accenture when my dad and his friend decided to put a security agency. Since both of my parents are working in the government they asked me to resign in my current job and handle the business.
At that time I don't know whether I am qualified to handle the business but I couldn't back out because there's no one will handle it.
Now that we were asked to evaluate ourselves whether we possess the qualities of an Entrepreneur, I just smiled and think myself way back 2008.
An entrepreneur should be focus. When I started handling the business I draw my timeline and I still remember that I am aiming to be a millionaire by the age of 30. Cool isn't? I brought that timeline to my table to serve as my inspiration. For me, business is like a hanging bridge sometimes due to strong winds the bridge will shake, you may fall if you won't hold on rope but if you are really determined to reach the end, you will remain focus on your goal until you reach the other end.
An entrepreneur should love what he is doing and should know everything about the business. I admit when I handled the business I am not happy because this is not what I want. Yes, I'm dreaming to have my own business but not like this. There was one meeting that I attended where I presented my company to the Board of Directors. I was so nervous that time but since this is a big account I need to be good on that, to make it short I got the account and at the end of the day I told dad "hhmmmmm...ang galling, pag my business pala lahat ng fear mo malalabanan mo basta maka-survive ka lang". From then I started to love the things I do, before I'm more concern on the money-matters but I'm also on-hands in the operation and marketing.
An entrepreneur should be competitive. Competition is always there, actually it helps you to think outside of the box to make your business more unique than the others. In security agency, there's always a healthy and dirty competition. For almost 4years, I must say that I'm competing in a clean and healthy manner, because I believe in Karma... I do good things so in return I will also good blessings.
An entrepreneur should have a passion. Passion is a strong emotion feeling or I should say love for what you are doing. No matter how busy I am in school, family and work, I always find time to visit my detachments to know my employees status. I bring food for them and even eat with them.
My business is an agency which means I am not the one who who's awake at night to secure our clients place or house or business not even tired for standing all day, but as an employer I want my employees to feel that I value them because it return I know that they will value as well. Give and take relationship is important especially when you're handling a business services. As long that you're fair and equal to them they will also give and be fair to their employer as well.
