Another example of a text scam came in this morning.
lst text from: " 0943380xxxxx SunCellular: You're the one selected postpaid plan 35% discount billing, to get your 35% discount billing, just forward 17 digit secret code to 2292. You will receive 17 digit secret code on next message."
2nd text: 50 09225957390 999 (to be sent to 2292)
Now here is where you need to exercise critical thinking and discernment.
1. Is the pitch true? Why or why not?
2. Where is the catch? What is wrong with the pitch? What would happen to you if you send the secret code to 2292?
3. Do you think some people fell for this?
4. What are your countermeasures?
The ROI for this is very high; if just one sucker falls for it, and the scammer invests PHPl0 for a win10, and he gets PHP50, then it is a 500% ROI. Smart este sun shining scam, eh....
I have published 2 Nigerian scam and this text scam (targetting postpaid Sun plan holders; it should now be easy for the groups to create their own new scams.
