Most kids aged 7 or 8 years old usually have Barbie dolls or toy cars with them and they just play around most of the time but for me and my sisters, it's different. When we were around that age, we did play around as well but what made us different is that we have already started thinking about business.
It all started when we accompanied our mother to the market and we saw this store selling candies and chocolates by bulk. The first thing that occurred in our mind then was we can sell this by piece and earn money and that's exactly what we did. We also have this kid's magazine where they feature simple recipes that can be done by children. There was a time where they featured how to make polvoron, we tried to make one and it turned out really good so we made a lot and sold it. At a very young age, I already have an open mind to recognize opportunities around me and I believe that it is one of the most important characteristic of an entrepreneur. Once I recognize an opportunity, I do have the initiative to grab and start it but of course, I still have to organize and make a study on it first and make sure that it is indeed a good opportunity. In addition to this, I do have the discipline and drive to succeed. Whenever I start on something, I focus on making it work until I reach my goal. Real entrepreneurs have the determination to succeed.
I am also creative in nature. I have the tendency to think out of the box and create unique things and maximize the use of available resources. My family loves to travel and everytime we do that we always look for something new, and we come up with ideas that we can bring in the business.
Taking risks is one of the things that I am really afraid to do before, but as time goes by, I have learned there is a huge possibility of success when you take risks. Nothing will happen if I continue to be afraid so I tried and was able to overcome that fear. Lastly, I am very passionate about businesses and that's what I think is the most important characteristic that one should have if they want to be a successful entrepreneur. I love the idea of bringing something new in the market and having my own business someday. I also think that it runs in our blood since my parents have the same attitude towards running our family business as well. If I don't have the passion for it, I don't think I would be able to even start up a new business.
If there are qualities that I need to work on, that would be my leadership skills and my sales ability. I am always a team player and seldom a team leader and that is why I do lack some leadership skills. There are times that I am not comfortable in giving orders to other people most especially when they are older than me. Another thing is that I used to be an introvert and not that comfortable with mingling with other people. I would always rather be by myself or with the company of my closest friends and family only. I used to get tongue tied when I talk to different people. Since I wanted to improve on this, what I did was I got a job that would require me to deal with people most of the time in order for me to hone my interpersonal skills.
Having the knowledge about business is not enough and does not guarantee success. You have to have the right attitude to make it to the top and become a successful entrepreneur. 3.0
