Factors Paper - Marife Malihan

AM I READY TO BE AN ENTREPRENEUR?
By: Marife Malihan

Being an entrepreneur isn't just about prestige and making money, it's about tough sacrifices with a right attitude to succeed in business. I really wanted to be an entrepreneur and that's the reason why i joined this class. It is a good way to start and identify if am i ready to be a good one.  I have found several qualities of being a good entrepreneur. To give me some clarifications, here's the self assessment of whether I do possess these qualities and what are not yet with me.

  • Inner Drive to Success – Entrepreneurs are ambitious and driven to succeed in business. They stay committed in achieving the goals and willing to take the risk.

I strongly believe that I have the inner drive to success. I am ambitious and willing to take a risk to achieve my goals and objectives. However, I feel that I just don't have the opportunity to become an entrepreneur. I really don't know where to start and how to do it. Maybe this course will help me understand better about entrepreneurship and a good way to start it.

  • Strong belief in themselves - Entrepreneurs are very determined to achieve their goals. Thus, believing in their ability to achieve the objective is a big factor. Having a healthy opinion makes them successful and has a strong and assertive personality.

I would say that I believe in my self and I am open to any constructive criticism for improvement. Knowing my limitations helps me identify my needs and niche. I don't usually give up and I continue to learn things for self fulfillment. On the other hand, it has a tendency to have a high self- expectation. I hope that this course would help me to handle the situation better and use it properly.

  • Search for New Ideas and Innovations – Entrepreneurs are expected to continuously improve their products or service and willing to do things better. A successful entrepreneur is resourceful, innovative, and creative and has an out of the box thinking.

I haven't tried being so creative and resourceful in one particular product since I have devoted my time working in the office. However, I am currently on operations and handling people. With this, I have experienced looking for some ways to improve my team's productivity and services. If this could be considered as a skill, then I would like to practice it on my own business someday being an entrepreneur.

  • Openness to Change – A successful entrepreneur is a broad minded person and open to possible changes to keep on top of the industry. They're also up to date with latest technology needed for the business.

I believe that "change" is the only permanent in the world. I have experienced several changes in my current organization and it wouldn't be a problem to have this attitude on my own business. Since I have not started any business now, at least i am aware that this quality would be a key to be a successful entrepreneur in the future.

  • Competitively by Nature – A successful entrepreneurs are always ready to face any challenges and thrive on competition. This would give them a high standard to compete with other businesses.

I am competitive in my own little way. I usually want the best for me and I don't easily give up.  I'm might not always be in the top but I would say that I am a competitive person. I do hope that this course would help me become more competitive and be able to use it properly in the future.

  • Highly Motivated and Energetic – A successful entrepreneurs are highly motivated and energetic. They have a strong will to succeed and have lots of self motivation.

I would say that I am motivated and energetic especially if good things come my way. Since I have a high self expectation, I feel bad if I don't get things right. But it would just for a moment and i start working on it.

  • Accepting of Constructive Criticism and Rejection –  A successful entrepreneurs are open to any constructive criticism and rejection.  They use the criticism for improvement and accept the fact that rejection is part of the business.

Since I am just human, sometimes I feel bad if I got some criticisms and rejections. But the fact that I am able to accept these things in a good manner is something to be proud of.

After knowing some of the good qualities of a successful entrepreneur, it is good to know that I have most of them. I have the willingness and motivation to become an entrepreneur in the future and I am looking forward to have a good discussion and topic on this course that would help me improve my character. 3.O
