Factors Paper: John Christopher Ng

John Christopher Ng                                                       SPENTREP S63                                                                   4/2/12

What factors do you poses to be an Entrepreneur
Let me begin with my greatest inspiration in life, my mom.  She was known as the most hard-working and the most diligent in our whole family. She's one of the few people I know that doesn't know how to give up; she doesn't even know how to rest. I believe she is one of the best businesswoman, she always thinks what the customer wants more than what she can offer, that's why she have many loyal customers, and she is very successful in her field.

Entrepreneur for me is synonymous to the word 'innovation.' Comparing to a plain businessman, whom his goal is only to make personal profits, I believe that entrepreneur are something more. Profit would just be an end result to his entire innovative masterwork. Money would just be a measurement of his success, but not his goal.

I believe as a Chinese descendant, I have the quality of a good businessman. It runs through our blood. As an MBA student and a licensed Mechanical Engineer, I believe that I have been trained with all the necessary tools I need to become an effective entrepreneur. I was trained to think without the box.
A person with a high I.Q. and is creative is a dreamer. But an entrepreneur plans, execute initiates and dreams is well rounded. I believe in the quote: "It is not the strongest of the species that survives, or the most intelligent that survives. It is the one that is the most adaptable to change" by Charles Darwin. It shows that brain is useless if is not in used effectively.

I believe that entrepreneurs are born and not made. Here in the Philippines, we can count the numbers of the mostly successful people compared against the poor once. One thing that separates rich people from the poor one is the way they think; their way of thinking is entirely different. Poor people think very linearly, they only think of themselves. But successful people think what they can contribute to the society as a whole.

One of the greatest lessons I learned from the stock market is risk, no risk no gain. And my risk appetite is high. I am willing to take on new challenges or career to open up new opportunities to explore my other possibilities.

And lastly, I believe I have the right to become an entrepreneur because despite all our assignments bomb by our prof in our first day. This would be a good training ground to test my skill, my patience, my creativeness and most important my will to become an Entrepreneur. Despite there is a chance for me drop the class and continue to other nonsense elective, I would still continue with this challenge. Well, I didn't enroll just for promotion; I want my MBA to help me become the best person, not just to become filthy rich but to contribute to the society. I believe God gave me a greater purpose in life, and this is only the beginning.
There 10 qualities to become a successful entrepreneur according to a resource website, namely:
1. Disciplined
5. Competitive
8. Strong people skills
2. Confidence
6. Creativity
9. Strong work ethic
3. Open Minded
7. Determination
10. Passion
4. Self-Starter
1.       Disciplined – I believe I have certain OC-ness factors in my life. Like I always sleep at 10pm, and wake up at 6am. I set a certain amount for budgeting my expenses, and I am discipline to have savings monthly. I don't smoke, drink or waste time flirting.
2.       Confidence – I believe that I am well equipped with all the lessons and learning I received from my school
3.       Open Minded – I believe I studied engineering and not Law, I am not here to judge anyone, but I am here to learn.
4.        Self-Starter –
5.       Competitive – I believe that I am at the right school for the right reason; I won't be taking my MBA if I am not competitive enough.
6.       Creativity – I believe that I have been trained to think without the box like McGuyver.
7.       Determination – again, my greatest inspiration was my mom, I am here to surpass all her achievements in life.
8.       Strong people skills – Communication is the best practice I learn to connect with anyone. I believe I have develop a tremendous skill called "the art of seduction" to sync in with anyone.
9.       Strong work ethic – I believe I always treat my work like my own.
10.   Passion – I don't start with things I am not passionate about.
What qualities of an entrepreneur are not yet with you?
I believe a have already had all the qualities except for one, being a "self-starter." The greatest question I always ask is where to begin? I may be a risk taker, but I always ending up asking myself "is it already too late?"
Now at this right subject, I also believe that I can now overcome my fear of staring to realize the needs I need in learning.
