GROUP 5: Landscaping

1.     Roof garden to cool buildings (with plants)
2.     Green roof (just turfing)
3.     Garden wall as feature wall
4.     Trees in parking lots for ventilation, shade and water collection
5.     Grass pavers/cells for all driveways and parking lots
6.     Design guidelines: minimum 10% of developments for parks
7.     Open courtyards are provided to keep building blocks at least 16m apart for effective cross ventilation
8.     Sub-meters to be installed in landscape taps
9.     Collection of rain water for landscape irrigation
10.  Employment of drip irrigation system with automatic controller and rain sensors to shut off system
11.  Landscape lighting using energy efficient lighting (LED, HF electronic ballast and energy saving PL)
12.  Use of recycled material for hardscaping; Use of recycled products such as glass and rubber to create landscape accents
13.  Zoning of plants according to water requirements and growth conditions
14.  Provisions of any of the following to substitute concrete drainage to slow down the flow of stormwater discharge:
a.     Rain Gardens
b.     Grass /Vegetated Swales
c.     Natural waterway
15.  Provisions of any of the following ABC Water design features/system with suitable plants species to naturally cleanse stormwater
a.     Bioretention swales / other Bioretention systems
b.     Constructed wetlands
c.     Cleansing biotopes
16.  Encourage the use of native plants (to encourage use of native plants to reduce maintenance and prevent exotic invasion)
17.  Biodiversity Enhancement & Habitat Creation Wildlife species enhancement - (potential increase in wildlife species over 5-10 yr period after establishment, and justified with records showing the travel patterns and GIS plans of habitats and species distribution)
18.  Water efficient management plan (use water efficient equipment, leak detection, monitoring & etc)
19.  Solar energy or other renewable energy (Eg. wind, waves power, etc)
20.  Recycled water (gray water) through double-piping water system – these can be re-used through wastewater treatments
21.  Permeable surfacing such as rammed earth or porous pavers (for sidewalks or jogging paths)
22.  Waterless urinals for outdoor toilets (ex. MMDA)
23.  Implement a 1:5 tree replacement ratio – for every tree cut down within a certain lot/commercial property, it has to be replaced with at least 5 saplings
24.  Encourage a 45% maximum footprint for house structures so that the remainder can be used as a yard
25.  Give special consideration for the natural terrain of the area – i.e., using linear ravines as a special feature of the development
26.  Double-planting for street trees
27.  Use of sustainably harvested wood or composite wood products for decks
28.  Composting kitchen wastes to maintain and enhance soil
29.  Solar-powered landscape lighting (bollard lights)
30.  Using at most 3-inch caliper trees so that the roots will spread easily and that trees will survive longer
31.  Creating earth dams through natural waterways
32.  Use of ground coffee beans as fertilizer
33.  Tree houses
34.  Bird sanctuary
35.  Vegetable gardens; fruit-bearing trees
36.  Use low maintenance plants (gingko tree)

39.  Microponics – symbiotic integration of fish, plants and micro-livestock in a semi-controlled environment
40.  Rain gardens
41.  Xeriscaping – plants that are drought-tolerant are used
42.  Creating ecosystems (permaculture)
43.  Ecoagriculture – landscapes that support agricultural production and biodiversity conservation
44.  planting trees to shade buildings from the sun or protect them from wind

46.  buying stock from local growers to avoid energy use in transportation
47.  sustainable urban drainage system - designed to reduce the potential impact of new and existing developments with respect to surface water drainage discharges
48.  Bio-filtering of wastes through constructed wetlands

50.  Site lighting with full cut off fixtures, light level sensors, and high efficiency fixtures
51.  Positioning buildings to take advantage of natural landforms as windbreaks
